Del Mar Foods is a food processing/packing facility that specializes in the processing of certain fruits and vegetables such as peaches, apricots, berries, peppers, brussels sprouts and spinach. Their facility consists of more than one hundred thousand square feet of processing, freezing, and cold storage space. To support their processes, Del Mar Foods utilizes multiple utility systems/equipment including air compressors, refrigeration, boilers, HVAC, and interior/exterior lighting, all of which contribute to significant energy consumption and operational costs.
In partnership with Lockheed Martin Energy’s energy efficiency programs through Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), Imperion conducted an energy assessment for Del Mar Foods’ facility. As a result, Imperion was able to identify energy efficiency opportunities for their interior/exterior lighting, ammonia refrigeration system, compressed air system, and boiler system eligible for participation in these incentive programs as well as the California Energy Commission’s Food Production Investment Program (FPIP).
As a result of Imperion’s assessment, Del Mar Foods gained valuable insight into potential energy and operating cost savings as well as eligible funding opportunities.
