OK Produce, a long-established, family-owned distributor in Fresno, CA, has built a reputation for innovation and sustainability in the fresh-produce industry. To further their commitment to operational efficiency and waste reduction, the company has launched a multi-phase fleet electrification initiative. This transition began with Phase I, which successfully integrated 10 Freightliner battery-electric trucks and electric terminal tractors into their operations, all powered by a foundational on-site solar array.
Building on the success of Phase I, Phase II will significantly scale the project to support a heavy-duty electric fleet of more than 70 vehicles. This expansion includes a massive infrastructure upgrade featuring 24 charging ports, 2 MW of solar energy, and 2 MW/4 MWh of energy storage. These upgrades not only power OK Produce’s zero-emission logistics but also contribute to the long-term resilience and reliability of the local energy grid.
Imperion has served as a strategic partner throughout this evolution, managing the coordination of utility partners and project development in a complex funding landscape. Crucially, Imperion directly secured $750K from EnergIIZE, and helped manage the application process for $6.4 M in additional funding – $5.6M from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, and $800K from PG&E’s EV Fleet Program. Through this partnership, OK Produce is successfully transforming into a leader in sustainable, high-tech food distribution.
