At Central Valley Meat’s beef processing facility in Hanford, California, hot water is essential for daily production and sanitation, making consistent temperature control critical to plant performance. To improve the thermal efficiency of its hot water storage system, the company engaged Imperion for engineering and project support.
Imperion launched the project with an assessment to quantify potential energy savings and confirm the project’s feasibility. We then secured a $62,672 incentive through the Industrial STAR Program, managing the utility application from development through approval.
In addition to engineering and incentive management, Imperion solicited competitive proposals from qualified insulation contractors, evaluated vendor pricing and qualifications, and coordinated contractor activities throughout project implementation to help ensure a successful installation.
The upgrade, consisting of R-19 spray foam insulation and an elastomeric coating on the facility’s 500,000-gallon hot water storage tank, eliminated the heat loss that had previously forced the boiler to routinely reheat stored water, cutting natural gas consumption while maintaining required operating temperatures.
