Project Overview

Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles operates year-round as a sports and entertainment venue hosting professional hockey, basketball, concerts, and large-scale productions. As the home of the Los Angeles Kings, the arena maintains a regulation-quality ice surface at all times — even when covered by insulated flooring for non-hockey events. The ice requires highly reliable refrigeration, precise temperature control, and the ability to support rapid event conversions without compromising ice integrity.

To improve system performance and reduce environmental impact, Imperion supported Crypto.com Arena in securing funding through the F-Gas Reduction Incentive Program (FRIP). The project involves replacing the arena’s legacy R-22 refrigeration system with a modern ammonia-based solution. The upgrade is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve overall energy efficiency, enhance long-term system reliability, and eliminate dependence on phased-out refrigerants — supporting the arena’s operational resilience and sustainability goals.
